THE SECRETS OF THE BLACK BOOK

What is a process of writing a novel like? How does it start and develop? What does a novel owe to the writer’s imagination, to his life, and to others’ ideas and influence? The Secrets of The Black Book tries to answer these questions in the context of Pamuk’s 1990 novel, The Black Book, using the novel’s drafts and excerpts from the author’s interviews. Sketches from Pamuk’s notebooks and his photographs accompany concise chapters on the literary and autobiographical influences of the novel.
